Introduction
Calculating the path of a tow tractor and its trailers can be complex due to they number of variables, This calculator will assist in making these calculations by simulating the behaviour of the truck and the trailers.
The truck will follow a defined path and the walls will move dynamically as the simulation runs to make the required calculation and understand the space that the truck and the trailers needed to perform the task.
The Destination aisle is set in calculator tool. this means that the Yale Logo box will follow the wall as it moves, typically increasing the destination aisle will help reduce the main aisle.
The turning radius of the truck can also be adjusted, this should reflect the aisle dimensions that you are looking for, the size of the trailers being pulled and the number of trailers. if this dimension is too small, there is a risk that the trailers can touch, if this happens during the simulation then the trailers will be removed.
A common misconception is to turn on a tight radius, this screen shot of the toll shows what can happen, as the truck turns, it will push the trailing arm up forcing the first trailer to swing out, but this also pushes the second trailer the opposite direction. ultimately this radius is too small.
The Calculator can be used for 90 degree turns and also for 180 degree turns
A number of preset trailers have been loaded into the system from our partners LKE.
A custom size trailer can also be simulated entering the details in the appropriate fields.
