Traditional navigation system
Modern navigation systems use a laser, often mounted at a height above pedestrians and other obstructions. The laser detects the position of the reflectors.
- Reflectors rotate the light by 90 degrees (“polarisation”). This allows the truck to ignore all other returns.
- Ideally need to see 5 reflectors, but 3 works OK.
- Reflector positions need to be pre-calculated for unique patterns across the facility.
- Obscuring reflectors can be an issue.
